Sean and Sarah Most Popular Names in Ireland
Sean and Sarah were the most popular babies’ names registered in Ireland last year. According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), there were 994 boys named Sean in 2006, followed closely by Jack. There were 698 girls named Sarah, followed by Emma, Katie, Aoife and Sophie. The top five boys’ names have all been the same since 1998, with only their order changing from year to year.
Names becoming more popular are: Senan and Tristan for boys. They are in the top-100 for the first time this year, with Cameron, Calum and Rory also increasing in popularity. And for the girls name, there were three first-time entries in the top-100: Aoibheann, Aoibinnn and Jasmine.
